Help for the Biomolecular Structures Tutorial

Browser Requirements

The HTML pages in this tutorial contain several special features that can only be interpreted by modern Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator, version 3.01 (or later). Be sure to upgrade your version if yours is older. The tutorial has been tested and found to work well with Netscape Navigator, version 4.5 on Windows 98. You can check which version you are using by selecting the Netscape menu Help/About Netscape....

If you prefer to use another Web browser you should make sure that it handles the following features (example HTML tags in parenthesis):

  1. Frames (FRAMESET, FRAME)
  2. Tables (TABLE, CAPTION, TH, TR, TD)
  3. Subscript and superscript (SUB, SUP)
  4. Various fonts and colors (FONT FACE="Symbol" COLOR="#00ff00")
  5. Forms with various buttons (FORM, INPUT)
  6. Java script in separate source files (SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript" SRC="somefile.js")
  7. Embedded buttons (EMBED)
Most of the above features are handled by MS Internet Explorer, version 3.0, but feature 6 is not implemented in this Web browser. Since Java Script source files are used extensively in the tutorial (indeed, this feature simplifies Web-page authoring a lot!), you will get unpredicted behavior with MSIE 3.0. In addition, MSIE 3.0 does not work well with Chemscape Chime, which is absolutely required for the tutorial.

This tutorial has not yet been tested with MS Internet Explorer, version 4.0.

You should make sure that Java Scripts are enabled in your browser. In Netscape Navigator this is done under the Languages tag in the dialog box that appears when you select the menu Options/Network Preferences.
